C'mon Guys: why can't the media report for good instead of evil?

While it has been a busy couple of weeks around the globe, particular attention in Australia has been turned towards the failed ‘terrorist attack’ on Holsworthy Military Barracks. Naturally, this sent media reporting into a frenzy, with one report particularly catching my eye and demonstrating that issues of violence are too easily confused by race and ethnicity.

GLBTQ online high school: Solution or segregation? Can separate be equal?

Last week an announcement went out online informing the world of a new school available to GLBTQ youth everywhere: a virtual school "Where you can get a high quality education while receiving comprehensive support from adults and peers." This announcement was greeted by some bloggers with joy, but by many with ambivalence.  This has been the reaction anytime there has been a discussion of similar face-to-face schools for queer youth that are currently established in Toronto and NYC.  Some arguments against such programs say that they deprive students of important socialization experiences or puts them in a fake supportive bubble that doesn't prepare them for the "real world."

Still Whitewashing After All these Years

Online Critical Pedagogy

I'm doing some preliminary work for a paper on 'critical online pedagogy' or 'online critical pedagogy' which is part of what brought me to the Freire Project.

Aside from Papert and Pinkert and a few others who seem to come up all the time on this subject, who do you see as being the scholars who would make it to the reading list?
