Loving the Living of Life, Oakland to España 2009

One:
The Hip Hop community lost one of its aces whether the bulk of us are aware or not. It’s hard to imagine a world without our pioneers or even those who continued to build on our originality, our creativity and our cultural imprint. Our Cultural icons like Michael Jackson, loved the world over and hated at home. Today we lost Grand Master Roc Raida,…. I will not go into his many accomplishments except to say he was the paragon of the famous quote by Grand Master Melle Melle and the Furious Five, … “this is where you got it from.” He was the real deal.

On Ways of Knowing and the Importance of Getting Over One's Self

I've been involved in several discussions over the last little while about the idea of Indigenous Knowledges (discussion primarily with white folks, as it turns out), and given the attention and interest these discussions developed, figured I'd reflect a bit here.

When School Kids Sing Obama’s Praises: Education and the Politics of Critical Thinking

They went to school expecting to learn the wonders of the world and acquire the academic skills requisite for a successful career; instead, they were “indoctrinated” into the Cult of Obama, brainwashed into praising the politics of Hitler’s reincarnation.

Angela Davis: 40 Years and She Keeps On Keeping On

Normally, not plussed by famous people, last night was definitely a high in life for me.  How terrific to go to see one of the most important women in the 20th century.  (I will now rant about the conditions....a broken down auditorium, one security guard, incompetent tech assistants, bad screens, no crowd control, and a 50 minute wait to have technical assistance, which never worked)...btw, it was sponsored as a Media series.  methinks McGill University needs to stick to medicine and stay out of media.

OK, now the discussion.

Social and Historical Issues

Hi everyone,

This coming spring I am going to teach a graduate course related to social and historical issues and adult education. This is the first time I am going to teach this course. Therefore, I am in the process of forming my syllabus.  I am wondering if there is anyone willing to share their pertinent syllabus, textbooks, and articles with me.

Thanks in advance,
Ilhan

From Herman Goering

If this is still valid and still works, there is something wrong with our pedagogy, philosophy, and praxis of liberation.

APA Publication Manual

The new edition of the APA Publication Manual has many errors, particularly in the "sample paper" section. The first printing, which was issued in the summertime, had a large number of substantial errors, and the 2nd printing, which was published in September, retained some of the same problems. If you bought your copy during that time, it almost certainly contains the errors, and bookstores may still be selling the "bad" copies.

Uribe's other war: students and public universities under siege in the Colombian conflict

I've been helping my good friend José Antonio Gutiérrez D. produce an English version of a pamplet on education in Colombia.

A pdf of the pamhplet is attached.
