`oil & milk don`t mix`

I was watching ‘Save the last dance’ the other night (parts of it anyway, as I had seen it before) and I found myself wondering why I liked this teen movie 7 years ago. It’s true, the two lead characters do have good chemistry, the soundtrack is great, but there is an absolute lack of realism surrounding Sara and her character and it’s just painful to watch Julia Stiles dance. And above all, the movie touches upon so many different issues, from death of a parent, single parenthood to racial attitudes, and I feel none of them is explored deeply enough to make the film profound.

Ciao professore

This movie was recommended to me by a former professor of mine who uses the film in his Teacher Education courses.

Though billed as a comedy, Ciao Professore, touches on serious issues. Set in rural Italy, the film explores the idea of compulsory schooling, pragmatic education and portrays the teacher as both educator and "educatee". It also makes the important distinction between education and schooling. The main character, Marco Spirelli, hails from an urban background and struggles, at times, to overcome the cultural divides that separate him from his students.

Tiger, Tiger, Tiger...

you got caught! I was rather disappointed recently to find out about Tiger Woods' extra-curricular activities, that came to light following a 2:30AM car accident in which he backed into a fire hydrant and then hit a tree on his neighbours lawn...all of this while going less than 30 miles an hour. Once the tabloids got hold of this information they did their notorious digging and found that Tiger has been cheating on his wife.

Why are their more cell phones than text books in class?

“Excuse me sir, I need to answer my phone; it’s my mom”

“Should Cell phones be banned in Public Schools, or should we educate students on their proper usage?”

Who is the Predator?

Are Tigers endangered?
It is not usually part of my character to discuss tabloid material, or even criticize it.  I do not look down on these forms of media, or their content.  It seems that often much of what begins in these magazines ends up making the established network news programs.  Yesterday Tiger pounced onto the scene with his alleged racy text messages and phone messages.

Disclaimer “ I do not want to rock the boat”
Advertisers are not content with being on billboards or television commercials; they want the whole package the real deal.  I remember not to long ago going to the McGill Cafeteria and grabbing a bite to eat.  The cups we were given were plain and the plates lacked any logos.  More importantly, one of the cooks used to make me my favorite grilled cheese sandwich.
