love-hate relationship with media
As I couldn’t reply directly to Karen’s comments I will try to bring here some of my thoughts about our “love-hate” relationship we have with media (as Karen defined it in her blog). I asked myself quite a lot why do I keep watching so many shows about which I have so many negative things to say about and still can’t figure it out. Karen said that “loving or hating a show will evoke other feelings, but curiosity, is what motivates people to open that TV. and watch the show that we "hate" so much” . I agree with the curiosity part, it seems we want to know everything (I know I do) so we think that by watching TV we can find out more. However I do recognize in myself that it is a real love- hate relationship with media and TV. I do hate that in spite of hating some of what I see I still watch it.
The other day on a Canadian show ( Steve and Chris) they were saying about how we people like to gossip and that even this tendency can have a positive effect on us , and how this is even a way to come together. So love of gossiping might explain our curiosity to watch TV, certain shows and or obsession with celebrities. With Obama I think it goes beyond of his new acquired celebrity status. I found myself curious to see what media would say for example about Michelle Obama’s fashion as I knew it will be impossible to not have any comments and also expected that some people would love and other would hate how she dressed. And although this fashion curiosity could be seen as my own need to hear some sort of the gossip I do have to admit that on another hand, knowing more about Obamas would help me feel more comfortable and more trusting of them. And I have to admit as Karen said that I am a very curious person and some the media watching is coming from that place. Anyway these are just few thoughts that I wanted to reply to Karen but it seems I cant’s as her blog was on a forum.
