Critical Pedagogy: Consciousness, Double-speak, and Contradictions in Daily Life
Greetings everyone! I’m so excited to be blogging among such a brilliant group of scholars. What an honor! Thank you Joe and Shirley for inviting me to pitch in my two cents.
I labored for quite a while over what the theme of my blog should be, and it finally occurred to me that I should just do what I do best—apply critical pedagogy to everyday life. So with that in mind, this blog is going to be about life through a critical lens as I see it. I envision this emerging as a critical pedagogy-type Seinfeld or Sex in the City-- a blog about nothing in particular that shows how critical pedagogy can unearth the double-speak and contradictions that operate within everything in our daily lives. I intend to use humor and irony as tools with which to illuminate oppression and ideology in U.S. society as it trickles down into the personal sphere of day-to-day life. Topics included may be politics, entertainment, health care, media, academia, and whatever else strikes me as particularly funny, ironic, or interesting at the time. So without further ado, I give you consciousness, double-speak, and contradictions…
