Lecturer in the Department of Communications Studies since 2008, Giuliana Cucinelli is also PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Education at McGill University, and the new Webmaster for The Paulo and Nita Freire International Project for Critical Pedagogy. Cucinelli worked as a production coordinator for various professional film and video companies as well as television broadcasting corporations before finding her way back to a classroom setting. Her latest documentary Why Critical Pedagogy?, produced with David Smith, and Professors Shirley R. Steinberg and Joe L. Kincheloe has been internationally screened in the United States, Spain, The Netherlands, Australia, Korea, Iceland, Finland, and Germany. Cucinelli is currently producing a short documentary on miseducation and radial educators with The Paulo and Nita Freire Project for Critical Pedagogy. She is also the founder and project leader of the Freire Social Media Project, a university and community project dedicated to working with marginalized urban youth through the use of social media. Furthermore, Cucinelli teaches media courses for McGill University’s First Nation and Inuit Education program. She has taught in various Cree and Inuit communities in Quebec including Chisasibi, Waskaganish and Whapmagoostui.
